Jake Novak published an article on CNBC.com entitled, “We need more babies! Seriously, this is a problem.” He claims that the declining birth rate in America for 6 straight years is “really bad news for our economy, our society, and all of civilization.”
Novak correctly notes that humans have developed all the solutions to society’s ills, thus children are a nation’s most precious resource. “Reduce their number, and you also reduce your chances for the great innovations that make life better for the humans already on the planet and make life more comfortable and possible for billions more to join us.”
The culprit for the declining birth rate, according to Novak, is government and corporate America. Property taxes, government welfare programs, regulations, and government greed discourage families from having more children and being able to comfortably take care of larger families. Novak claims corporations are still not family friendly when it comes to maternity leave, health care, and work hours. He closes his piece with a telling statement, “…more and more Americans are responding to the growing costs and challenges of raising children by simply not having them in the first place. Not good. Because we can’t succeed in the future without the people to make it happen.”
The article ignores the largest impact on the American birth rate and the common sense solution. Americans abort approximately 1.2 million children each year, or ¼ of all pregnancies. If America wants to increase its birth rate and thus preserve its most precious resource, we should stop killing one quarter of our children.
Our utilitarian society views children as resource consumers. Pro-abortionists consistently talk about the burden unwanted children place on society. “Unplanned pregnancies will just increase the number of kids on welfare!” they claim. Jonathan Gruber, the now infamous Obamacare architect who bragged about the passing of Obamacare because of stupid American voters, also claimed that legal abortion had saved the U.S. taxpayer upwards of $14B in welfare benefits and that it also lowered crime. He has repeatedly claimed that abortion is a “social good” because it reduces the number of “marginal children.”
Margaret Sanger, the racist eugenicist founder of Planned Parenthood, would be so proud.
To be clear, we only view unseen, unborn children as non-producers to be killed and thrown out if they don’t suit our utilitarian objectives. Once a child is born, the same pseudo social scientists claim government and society now have an obligation to feed them, educate them, and provide for them. The child is worthless in the womb but worthwhile the moment after birth.
Is that all babies really are? Are they only resource-sucking, non-producing parasites that drain energy and materials from society with nothing to give in return? Unborn leeches worthy of death because they don’t suit our current materialistic agendas?
A 2007 study concluded the opposite, that the tens of millions of aborted children have in fact, had a negative if not debilitating impact on the US economy. The study calculated the loss of GDP according to then 54 million aborted children, and concluded that the American economy has lost over $37 trillion dollars of GDP due to elective abortion.
Mr. Novak is correct- children are our most precious resource. Not only economically, but socially, culturally, and spiritually. And while it’s easy to point the finger at government and corporate America as the reason why the American birth rate is low, the reality is we continue to kill our most precious asset – our children – by the millions simply because they don’t suit our utilitarian whimsies.
Forty million abortions in 40+ years = 40 million less workers to support Social Security. Reinforces the adage that “you can’t have your cake and eat it, too.”
There are none so blind as those who will not see and none so deaf as those who will not hear. The alarm has been sounded repeatedly and no one is listening. Look at China with 3 million more men than women of childbearing age. This is a huge problem.… Read more »
Jake Novak’s reasons for the decline in the birth rate are somewhat valid although property taxes, welfare programs, regulations and government greed never stopped people from having babies in the past. The true decline began with the legalization of birth control and then abortion. When the FDA approved the pill… Read more »
One in for children in the womb in America are killed. Are we really the land of the free and the home of the brave??
Thank you for sharing! People need to hear the truth again and again. My husband and I experienced several years of infertility before conceiving our firstborn. He died shortly after birth. Two years later we were blessed with another child. The next ten years brought five more children into our… Read more »
Be fruitful and multiply! Excellent comments, Linda, and thank you for living out your commitment to children so faithfully.
I agree that we must stop murdering our Children for they all have value, not for what they can potentially produce but for who they are. Therefore, we must always be careful not to reduce a child to a mere resource, for in doing so we ourselves, marginalize the very… Read more »
Amen, Carlos.
I agree 100%. How do we suppose we look in the Lord’s eyes? Didn’t He say murder is the worst crime, and didn’t He sat adultery is next to it? Life begins at the moment of conception. He created this world for us, and allowed us life here….do we think… Read more »
Thank you, Mr. Fisher, for putting into words what I feel deeply in my heart. These generations will have much to answer for to our Lord one day. Our economy suffers because there are consequences of our sinful actions. Unfortunately there are many good people who agree with you, but… Read more »
Charlene – I personally and Human Coalition corporately will most certainly continue to speak out publicly and work relentlessly to end abortion in our nation. We covet your prayers.
It is my passion to end abortion in America. Not only do I believe in the scantity of life, I believe abortion is murder, not just by the parents who practice abortion but by the country, namely America, that allows and endorses it. In the 60’s I became pregnant and… Read more »
Delores – a powerful and moving story, thank you for sharing. I invite you to share the story on one of our sites, http://www.facesofprolife.com. Hi Brian, I appreciate your response to Jake Novak’s article. You are right on, may it change many minds, and my hope is that more of us will like you speak up and against this evil-called-good of abortion. However, I am having difficulty fact-checking the statement that Novak “has repeatedly… Read more »
Hi Fred. You may be confusing Novak and Gruber. Jonathan Gruber is the person who claimed abortion is a social good, not Novak. The original blog post links to the source of the quote, which is http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2014/12/07/obamacare-architect-calls-abortion-of-marginal-children-a-social-good/. Hope that helps.

To put it very simply, good answer, Mr. Fisher. In fact, it’s the best and only sensible answer.
