For too long, Christian churches have been silent about America’s greatest evil — abortion. While the Church is undoubtedly committed to an array of social justice issues, such as feeding the poor, stopping human trafficking, rescuing children from abuse, and protecting women from exploitation, it largely remains silent about abortion — the leading cause of death in America.

And yet, the Bible is unequivocally clear about the priceless value and the sacredness of human life.

My latest book project, Deliver Us from Abortion: Awakening the Church to End the Killing of America’s Children, takes the heated discussion of abortion out of the political realm and places it firmly where it belongs: in the pulpits, Sunday school classes, and home groups of the American Church.

Since 1973, when the U.S. Supreme Court legalized abortion on demand through Roe v. Wade, abortion has been responsible for the deaths of over 53 million innocent American lives. Even more staggering is the fact that an estimated one in four women sitting in America’s churches today has experienced an abortion. Sadly, however, only a few select church leaders and laypeople are willing to address this issue head-on. And those who do are often dismissed as being extreme, rigid, or out of touch.

How did the Church become so indifferent to the slaughter of approximately 3,500 unborn children a day?

On January 15, Deliver Us from Abortion will hit book distributors nationwide, bringing with it a long overdue analysis of the role the Church has played — and abdicated — in the fight against this social injustice. With scriptural insights about the value of human life, I unravel the Church’s passive and often confused position on abortion. I’ve also included a three-chapter Bible study that will enlighten the reader on the value of human life and the role the Church must play in helping to protect unborn lives and their families.

Abortion remains eerily absent from the American Church’s list of priorities, when it should be at the top of their list. Deliver Us from Abortion is hopefully the first step toward guiding the Church back to one of its primary duties — “Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter” (Proverbs 24:11).
