Last week, I published the first installment of a two-part blog post, giving you the lay of the land in the pro-life movement. In it, I enumerated various legislative actions and judicial victories that are putting an abortion-free America within our grasp. If you haven’t had the opportunity to read part 1 yet, then I invite you to do so now. It will encourage and inspire you to keep fighting the good fight on behalf of preborn babies victimized by abortion. I also invite you to post a comment and open up further discussion on the blog. I moderate the blog myself, and I welcome your thoughts in response.

As further proof that we can and will end legalized abortion in America, this week I’d like to hone in on what God is doing through Human Coalition, and our efforts to end abortion around the country.

But first, some background. The idea for Human Coalition began as an Internet test in 2007. A friend of mine and I then turned that test into a volunteer organization in 2009. In early 2012, HC became a full-time organization with just three employees, and we were still focused on using the Internet to reach hurting women who are at risk to abort their children. However, we realized that just doing Internet work would not end abortion. We had to expand our services and our team.

Since our humble beginnings, Human Coalition has now grown into a 100-plus person organization that works with 30 life-affirming pregnancy centers across the country. We operate five of our own women’s care clinics and an in-house call center. We also have a team dedicated to serving churches, and we just started a brand-new legal group. (Yes, I realize that “Human Coalition” may not have been the best name for our group, considering that only about 20 percent of our work is done online nowadays. We’re working on that…)

Our five women’s care clinics—two of which are mobile—operate out of three abortion-riddled communities: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Grapevine, Texas; and most recently, Raleigh, North Carolina. But what’s happening within these women’s care clinics is what will give you hope and assurance that we can indeed end abortion in our lifetime.

Human Coalition is a unique nonprofit. While we extend grace, compassion, and tangible help to hurting women and families, we also use an enormous amount of business thinking in our work. We build software, track metrics, perform sociological studies, and employ predictive modeling to help us rescue more children and families from abortion.

So when we evaluate the success of one of our women’s care clinics, the first piece of data we analyze is our Market Penetration—how many abortion-minded women (those who consider abortion to be their primary option) are we actually having a conversation with? In other words, for every 100 women who are at risk to abort their preborn children within a particular community, how many of them are having a conversation with a life-affirming pregnancy center? This has been an area of struggle in the pro-life movement for years. Historically, the national average for Market Penetration has been just 3 percent.

Human Coalition has employed some of the industry’s top-notch data analysts and marketing scientists. They work on the Internet and in our key cities to reach more and more hurting women and men facing a crisis pregnancy. They test different approaches, implementing strategies that prove we are connecting with people in need. Over time, our tests and strategies have paid off. In Grapevine, Texas, we are regularly achieving a Market Penetration of 18 percent (a 600 percent increase over the national average). And in Pittsburgh we hit a high watermark of 39 percent! Think of that—we are having a conversation with 13 times the number of abortion-minded people than just a few years ago. This is unprecedented progress.

More importantly, when they contact us through our in-house call center, they are speaking with professionally trained agents who connect them with nearby life-affirming care in their time of need. Since HC brought our call center in house three years ago, we have not only doubled the number of abortion-determined women we talk to, but we’ve also doubled the number of women who make and keep an appointment at one of our women’s care clinics or participating life-affirming pregnancy centers.

It stands to reason that the more abortion-determined women we can have meaningful conversations with and welcome through our doors, the more babies we can help rescue from abortion. Which is exactly what has happened.

In 2015, HC set a goal to rescue 1,100 babies. We exceeded that amount by 100, helping to rescue approximately 1,200 lives in one year. And 60 of those babies were rescued through our two women’s mobile clinics, which have been on the road since that spring.

To date, HC has helped rescue over babies 3955, with nearly one-third of those lives being saved during 2015.

So now that you’ve read through all of this data, you may be asking yourself the same question I get almost everywhere I speak, “That’s great, Brian. But there are an estimated 1.2 million babies aborted each year. How can we end abortion in our lifetime if we’re rescuing only 1,200 babies a year?”

I’m glad you asked.

The answer is simple—although getting there won’t be easy.

Human Coalition has invented the solution for reaching abortion-determined women and men, connecting with them through our call center, encouraging them to visit one of our women’s care clinics or participating life-affirming pregnancy centers, and helping them choose life. And through constant testing of new ideas, we are getting increasingly more effective at each step in the client cycle.

Because we’ve been so successful at what we’ve accomplished so far—specifically within the markets where we operate our own women’s care clinics—we can now expand into other abortion-riddled cities, replicate our model, and save more lives.

We’ve also discovered the secret of engaging the church to help us in this effort. By linking arms with local churches, we can help provide a continuum of care for women and families, whereby they can receive help meeting their employment, housing, medical, and other practical needs.

So you see, when a business-minded organization comes alongside life-affirming pregnancy centers, women’s care clinics, and local churches by using technology, grace, and compassion, there’s no limit to the number of babies we can help save. In essence, we’re starving abortion clinics of their customers.

But it’s not just in the closing of abortion clinics that the pro-life movement is seeing great gains. It’s also, and perhaps most importantly, in the attitudes of the American public. Forty-nine percent of Americans believe having an abortion is morally wrong, and 75 percent of evangelical, Caucasian Christians agree. Through the HC church initiative, we are reaching out to churches all over the country to increase this number, so pastors, laypeople, and congregants will come to realize that abortion is the greatest social injustice of our day.

It’s clear the pro-life movement has made great inroads, but there’s still much work to be done. Human Coalition must continue its rapid expansion, spreading our abortion-ending solutions to the most abortion-dense cities in America.

That’s why we’re asking you to join us in this long but winnable fight. Through your support, Human Coalition can continue improving our methodology, reaching more women and men facing a crisis pregnancy, and helping to save more babies. We can also bring more churches and ecumenical organizations on board to partner with us in helping to care for these women and families long term.

As you can see, we’re moving in the right direction—and at an accelerating rate. We’d love to have you on board so that together, we can finally say, “MY GENERATION ENDED ABORTION.”
