“Jade” was facing an unexpected pregnancy and didn’t know what to do next.
Prior to discovering she was pregnant, Jade had given notice at her current job. She was leaving in hopes of starting a new job she found online. She was excited for a fresh season and to work at a school that provides academic classes, counseling, and social services for young girls. She believed she could really make a difference in their lives.
Two months had gone by, and there was still no word from the school. Unemployed and pregnant, worry began to flood her mind. How was she going to make ends meet? Time was ticking, and she needed to secure a job fast.
Where could she turn for help?
She found some support from her current partner, who was the father of the baby, but when she turned to her mother, she received no support. Jade was crushed by the lack of love and help. Her mom was the person Jade craved support and affirmation from. She wanted her mom to be present in her grandchild’s life, and she didn’t want to feel shame for the pregnancy. Without a job and in need of much encouragement, Jade went online.
Jade found Human Coalition and dialed the number. Her biggest need was a support system that could walk with her throughout pregnancy and beyond. Her spirits were down as she searched for a job and still was not receiving support from her own mom. Jade felt alone in her pregnancy so far and knew she needed a community of women to surround her.
Over the phone, the nurse assured her that the Continuum of Care team could be that for her. They would get her in touch with a social worker to assess her specific needs and a job coach to help prepare her for upcoming interviews. Jade felt relief as she voiced all her frustrations and fears about the pregnancy to the nurse. She finally felt emotionally supported and heard throughout the entire conversation.
After working with a job coach, Jade was soon contacted for interviews and landed a job as an event planner for a nursing home. Her new employer was very supportive when Jade shared that she was pregnant. All her concerns and worries were soon put to rest. She became confident in the fact that she could support herself and her baby and was grateful for the new support system surrounding her.
The Continuum of Care team referred Jade to Embrace Grace, which has had a huge impact on her! Embrace Grace helps new moms facing unexpected pregnancies by offering support groups and providing community through local churches. Jade has grown immensely in her journey of motherhood by attending her support group both online and in person. Embrace Grace threw her a baby shower, and Jade invited her group leader to be present with her in the delivery room.
Jade regularly stays in touch with the Continuum of Care team for emotional support and has shared thoughts on her future career path and the direction she’d like to take.
Jade thoroughly enjoyed the nesting phase as she got ready for her son’s arrival. With the emotional and spiritual support she received that has come through your support, she found joy throughout her pregnancy and great hope for the future! Like every expectant mother, Jade experienced some nerves and anticipation for what raising a child would look like. But that didn’t trump her excitement to meet her little one and become a mother! She truly believes she can now accomplish anything she sets her mind to.
