What Is Telecare? Supporting Women Facing Unexpected Pregnancies

At Human Coalition, Telecare is a compassionate, life-affirming intervention that connects women in crisis with real-time, virtual Options Counseling—before they make an irreversible decision about abortion. It’s how we help moms explore their options, take time to consider their choice, and realize they’re not alone.

Telecare is one of the most powerful tools we have to support both women and the children they carry.

Telecare is a way to reach and help a mom in crisis before the abortion industry convinces her that killing the baby in her womb is her only option.

It’s a compassionate and effective method pioneered by Human Coalition to rescue children from abortion and provide lifesaving support to moms facing unexpected pregnancies.

How Does Telecare Work?

Telecare provides a mom with all of the same options Counseling she would receive in our brick-and-mortar clinics, but over the phone. This allows Human Coalition to reach moms seeking abortions quickly and fills an important gap for moms who may live in remote areas, face transportation challenges, or for any reason are not able or ready to visit a clinic in-person.

The primary goal of Telecare is to help a mom take the time she needs in her decision-making process, consider her real options, and begin to see that abortion is not the only answer. This immediate connection reassures her that Human Coalition truly cares about her well-being and serves as a vital first step toward her choosing life.

Compassionate Approach Through Telecare

In her moment of crisis, a mom often goes online searching for things like how much an abortion costs or where she can get an abortion nearby. She is either seeking an abortion or is undecided and looking for information. Sadly, our culture has been telling her that abortion is the easiest and quickest answer to her “problem.” Even the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute has admitted that a woman typically seeks abortion because she feels she has no other choice.

She may not have planned to have a child right now, and she may not have expected to get pregnant. Yet suddenly, her world has turned upside down, sending her into a panic. Feeling afraid, overwhelmed, and isolated, her stress level rises. She may feel rushed to make a permanent decision before she has all of the information she needs.

Human Coalition’s many client stories reveal similar experiences faced by women in this situation: She knows that disclosing her pregnancy may lead to being abandoned by the father of the child, getting kicked out of her home, or enduring domestic violence. She also fears losing her job, being unable to pursue school, or becoming ostracized by her family, friends, coworkers, and even her church. She is terrified, and she may believe that ending her pregnancy is the only solution.

In desperation, she searches online for answers. If she finds Human Coalition, she finds refuge. She is invited to call and talk with a compassionate nurse about her dilemma. This allows counseling to begin soon—sometimes within minutes—after finding out she is pregnant.

How Human Coalition Walks with Moms Through Telecare

First, she talks with one of Human Coalition’s contact center agents, who is a compassionate and calm presence on the other end of the phone. This individual briefly gathers basic information before immediately connecting her with a nurse for Options Counseling.

The power of Telecare is the speed with which it allows Human Coalition to connect an abortion-determined mom to a nurse. This speed of care minimizes the abortion industry’s opportunity to swoop in and push abortion on a frightened mom.

Telecare Reaches Moms in Their Moment of Crisis

With telecare, we can now reach the mom in her moment of crisis and talk about all of her options.

Most importantly, Telecare assures a mother that someone is in her corner and ready to walk with her when she may not have anyone else in her life she can turn to for support.

When a pregnant woman calls, she is vulnerable to the abortion industry’s lie that abortion is her only option. But Human Coalition’s nurses let her know she has more than one choice and get to the heart of her reasons for her wanting an abortion that day.

The truth is that 76 percent of the moms who contact Human Coalition say they would prefer to parent if their circumstances were different.

With Telecare, Human Coalition nurses are able to identify what those limiting circumstances are and begin a process of walking with a mom through her pregnancy to address and improve those overwhelming situations.

We are in her corner, celebrating her life and the life of the baby in her womb.

Telecare Increases Life Decisions

Telecare appointments have increased the number of moms we’re able to counsel and have been effective in rescuing more children from abortion.

Telecare followed by an in-clinic appointment at a pregnancy center, where a mom can receive a free pregnancy test and ultrasound, increases the chances of a life decision by more than 50%.

For these reasons, we prioritize connecting with moms via telecare as quickly as possible so we can immediately encourage her and begin to remove the obstacles that are leading her toward abortion.

In short, Telecare helps Human Coalition rescue children by caring for moms.
