Angela’s Story

Angela’s journey to motherhood has been one filled with grief, fear, and heartbreak, leaving her with little to hope for.

The moment she realized she was pregnant, doubt began to fill her mind. She had a miscarriage months ago and was experiencing spotting and cramping again. Angela wasn’t sure if she was relieved or disappointed.

I can’t seem to keep a child.

But Angela had to be truthful with herself. Even if she wasn’t miscarrying, could she really afford to keep this child? She wasn’t in a financial position to care for another life.

Motherhood was always a confusing topic for Angela. Some days she would desire it. But more times than not, she found herself wondering why she never felt an instant connection with her baby when she was pregnant. The thought of raising a baby felt exhausting.

Maybe if I had a partner that would stay, I could do it. I could be a mom.

Angela waited a few more days before researching her abortion options. Regardless of what her body was saying, her mind was saying, “it’s no use. You will never be a mom.”

She found the number for Human Coalition and gave us a call.

Throughout the conversation, Angela learned all of her options. Though she was set on abortion, she listened with open ears. She found the nurse to be full of compassion and empathy for the situation Angela was in. She felt understood. At the end of the call, Angela was offered a free ultrasound at a nearby clinic. Angela hadn’t miscarried like she thought she would, so she was curious to see what exactly was going on inside of her.

She hung up the phone, unsure of her exact feelings.

A couple of years ago, Angela had an abortion. At the time, she didn’t feel adequately prepared or financially ready. Honestly, nothing had changed. She still didn’t feel prepared to parent and financially set.

Will I ever though?

Pregnant again in the same circumstances, she knew it was up to her to make some changes in her life. With an abortion and a miscarriage in her past, Angela wondered if it was possible to choose life this time around.

Angela thought about what it would take for her to choose life. For one thing, she needed support. The thought of being a single mother immediately caused her anxiety, but didn’t the nurse say they were there to help?

The next thing Angela needed assistance with was finances, as well as essentials for the baby. She knew all those little things would add up quickly.

A few weeks later, Angela had her mind made up.

She wanted to choose life for her baby. No longer would she allow herself to experience the loss, grief, and shame that she felt many times before. She felt shame with her abortion and grief with her miscarriage but longed for hope to hold onto.

Hope was finally here.

She called Human Coalition again, but this time it was to tell us of her joy-filled news! Life had won. Angela enrolled in our Continuum of Care program where she found her biggest obstacles of support and finances met. Angela was determined to see her circumstances change and wanted to provide the best life possible for her baby.

Angela was provided with ultrasounds, prenatal care referrals, educational resources, and material assistance such as clothes for the baby and other essentials. She gave birth to a healthy baby and is doing well. Angela checks in with us regularly and lets us know when she needs diapers, formula, and clothing. She’s truly happy as a mother and has found her support system here at Human Coalition.

The support Angela thought she lacked has been found because of people like you! Through your prayers, support, and generosity, mothers who once found the decision for life impossible are now able to confidently choose life. THANK YOU for not giving up on your efforts in ending abortion in this lifetime. You are truly making a difference for moms and babies.
