Dallas, TX — Human Coalition stands with unwavering conviction in support of the Hyde Amendment, a long-standing, life-saving federal policy that prevents taxpayer dollars from directly funding elective abortions through Medicaid. Since its adoption in 1976, the Hyde Amendment has protected the most vulnerable Americans: preborn children and their mothers from the destructive reach of abortion funding.
Research from the Charlotte Lozier Institute estimates that the Hyde Amendment has saved more than 2.6 million children over the past four decades. These are not abstract numbers. They are children who were given the chance to live and women who were spared the physical and emotional trauma of abortion.
Hyde is a non-negotiable for pro-life Americans and organizations like Human Coalition, whose mission is to make abortion unthinkable and unnecessary.
While we are grateful for the policies enacted during the Trump administration that have advanced protections for life, we strongly disagree with President Trump’s recent comments urging lawmakers to have “flexibility” on the Hyde amendment. The Hyde Amendment is not a bargaining chip. It is a bedrock policy that has garnered bipartisan support for decades, and its removal from any federal legislation or budget would be unacceptable to the millions of Americans who believe every child deserves a chance at life.
“The Hyde Amendment is one of the most effective pro-life policies ever enacted,” said Jeff Bradford, President of Human Coalition. “It has saved millions of lives and protected countless women from the violence of abortion. Any federal budget or legislation that lacks Hyde protections is a non-starter for pro-life Americans.”
