Why We Still March for Life

Why do we still march for life? The Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion in the United States on January 22, 1973, was overturned by the Supreme Court in its Dobbs v. Jackson ruling on June 24, 2022. It’s over. Is there a need to march in Washington and on the capitol steps of every state now that Roe is gone?

The answer is yes, and yes, and so much more!

Millions of pro-life advocates have braved frigid January temperatures in our nation’s capital for more than 50 years to fight for the dignity of human life, particularly for those most vulnerable — babies in the womb. Our vision has been to make abortion unthinkable and unnecessary in America. But we are not there, not even close.

Yes, Dobbs v. Jackson Womens Health Organization overturned Roe, but it did not liberate our nation from the killing of preborn babies. It gave American citizens the opportunity to battle for life through the democratic process. But we now face the challenge of making sure that our representatives and legislatures are sustaining the preborn in every state — a recognition that the fight to end abortion in America is not only a state issue, but also a local and federal issue.

The March for Life is an inspiring, peaceful, vibrant, and joy-filled rally of women, men, young people, and children from all across the country — and it's the largest annual human rights demonstration in the world.

But the March for Life is not just a protest … it is a celebration of each and every life, from the moment of conception. We envision a world where every life is celebrated, valued, and protected.

Pastor Lucas Miles of Nfluence Church in South Bend, Indiana, told Fox News Digital, We must end the injustice of abortion. This is why I march … Abortion is evil. This isn’t a political issue, or a left or right paradigm. It’s an issue of human dignity. And how we respond says something about us all.”

John K. Amanchukwu Sr., an associate pastor at Upper Room Church of God in Christ in Raleigh, North Carolina, told Fox News Digital, “As a Black pastor who stands in opposition of abortion, I see how the injustice of abortion has led to the downward spiral of the Black community.”

He added, “As we celebrate the overturning of Roe v. Wade at the March for Life rally, I challenge my fellow Americans that the fight for liberty isn’t over — and we must labor until every unborn child has the right to life.”

“As an OB/GYN who cares deeply for both my patients — mom and baby — I march for life because abortion harms them both. My patients deserve life-affirming healthcare that seeks to ensure healthy outcomes for both of them and ensures that women have the support and information they need.” — Dr. Christina Francis, Indiana

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., who spoke at the rally, said, “Every single person has inestimable dignity and value. Your value is not related in any way to the color of your skin, or what zip code you live in, how good you were in sports, where you went to high school, it’s irrelevant, your value is inherent because it is given to you by your creator.”

Vice President J.D. Vance stated, “We march to protect the unborn; we march to proclaim and live out the sacred truth that every single child is a miracle and a gift from God.”

“I march because motherhood is a blessing from God, and I want all women to reject the lie that being a mom ruins your life. I march because every child is a beautiful image bearer that deserves legal protection. I march for a culture that sees new life as something to be cherished, not discarded.” — Grace, Florida

Fr. Shenan J. Bouquet sums it up well as to why we still march:

Pull quote: “Every day, thousands of abortions are still taking place across the country; innocent human life is being killed. Given this, marches, walks, and rallies for life are as urgent as they ever were.”

“The March for Life in Washington DC showed me just how gigantic, diverse, and dynamic the pro-life movement really is … It boggles the mind to consider not only those hundreds of thousands who are present each year, but also the MILLIONS who support it from afar, and march in their own cities and towns across the country. It is truly one of the most visible, public ways we can come together and voice our stance against abortion.” — Mary

Family Policy Alliance challenges us to rethink a world without abortion:

Imagine a state — a nation, even — without abortion. A nation where each precious life is truly cherished. Where children are given a chance to breathe their first breath, and where moms and families are offered hope and healing, not death and darkness. A nation of life. Now, imagine yourself making that possible.”

To end abortion, we must keep marching because of our commitment to building a nation where moms and babies are met with love, support, care, and a culture of life. We must stay engaged in the battle to ensure truth is told and understood. We must persevere, never giving up, until abortion is a thing of the past and life is our future.
