Diamond’s Story

“Enthusiastic” clearly described Diamond’s attitude toward her life. She was busy, working full-time and starting a new career that she loved. Diamond was focused on moving up the corporate ladder to become the best among her peers.

So when she found out she was pregnant, Diamond tried to fight off all the emotions and questions that came with it. Frightened and angry, she grappled with what was going to happen to her job and her career. She didn’t make enough money to feed and care for a baby. How could she afford a doctor without insurance? Would she have to be a single parent and do this on her own?

She didn’t have time for a baby.  Plus, Diamond didn’t have health insurance yet, and her studio apartment was too small to add a child. She always wanted to be a mother someday, but “Now is NOT the right time,” she confessed.

Overwhelmed with countless questions and few answers, Diamond believed the lie that abortion was the solution to her “problem.” There was absolutely no way she could afford and care for a baby — at least that’s what she thought.

That’s when she anxiously started looking online for a place that would take away her “setback” and end the life of the child in her womb. But Diamond had to act now, otherwise her well-made plans would fall apart.

Fortunately, Diamond called Human Coalition and spoke with an understanding nurse who reassured her and helped her refocus on the reality of her situation. Diamond wanted to know what her options were — what was involved in keeping her baby and the consequences of having an abortion.

Stirring in her mind was the idea that parenting a baby was not her first choice, and it seemed impossible in too many ways. Human Coalition connected her with a pregnancy center where she received a free pregnancy test and ultrasound. The test confirmed that Diamond was pregnant, and the ultrasound showed she was carrying a baby boy.

Diamond didn’t expect to feel excitement when she saw her baby on the ultrasound monitor. She wondered what she should do. How could she have a baby with so many obstacles to overcome, let alone keep pursuing her career?

But once she saw her baby boy on the ultrasound and heard his heartbeat, her own heart began to soften toward keeping him.

But once she saw her baby boy on the ultrasound and heard his heartbeat, her own heart began to soften toward keeping him.

The final point was when she learned what was involved in having an abortion. The reality of a tiny, innocent baby being forced out of her womb — limb by limb — was more than she could imagine.

Abortion wasn’t just an “undo button” that would get rid of her “problem.” Abortion wasn’t a simple procedure that would be forgotten in a few days. She was suddenly aware that abortion would be the brutal killing of her baby, and it would haunt her all her life. She could never reverse the act of abortion!

Knowing the truth about abortion convinced Diamond — and the father — that carrying their baby boy through birth was the right thing to do no matter how challenging.

Human Coalition built a personalized Continuum of Care plan to help Diamond throughout her pregnancy and far beyond. It included ongoing care from partnering licensed health professionals and access to tangible resources like clothing, diapers, strollers, car seats, food, and rental assistance. They also helped her sign up for Medicaid so she would have the insurance needed during her pregnancy.

Surrounded by compassionate support from Human Coalition, Diamond became convinced it really was possible to carry and raise her baby boy. Soon, a sense of stability overcame the fear and anxiety that was keeping her from becoming a mom.

If it wasn’t for you, Diamond probably wouldn’t have seen the ultrasound of her precious boy or been given an accurate description of what’s involved with an abortion. Instead, she was able to make an informed decision and chose life for her son!

Your generosity transformed Diamond’s thinking and her son’s life. Before, she didn’t think she could be a mother. She thought it was the wrong time to have a baby. She thought she needed more time to get herself on a stable path by making more money and living in a bigger home. No one is ever ready for a baby, especially when they believe they’ll have to do it alone.

Today, Diamond is back to work. She loves her beautiful little boy and is such a caring and gentle mother. Thank you for being there when Diamond needed you most!
