Eboni’s life was carefree and totally focused on what she wanted.
“My life was simple. I went to college and played four years of volleyball. Then I started my business of body contouring and e-lipo. After that I became an LMT, a licensed massage therapist. I just loved helping people,” she said.
“I would party every weekend, doing as I pleased, going where I wanted to go. So, I only had to take care of myself and keep my head on straight. It was simple.”
Then she got pregnant.
“I’m not gonna lie. I was terrified. Thinking about being pregnant brought lots of emotion and uncertainty, and I knew I would need guidance and help because this is something that I could never even imagine doing.”
When she told the father of the baby, he said, “Oh my gosh, what are we going to do?”
“I always imagined being married and having a baby and having a family,” Eboni said. “Being pregnant out of wedlock really took a toll on me. It was terrifying. I was scared. This was one of my top fears, to have a baby,” she admitted.
Abortion was one of the first things that came to mind early in Eboni’s pregnancy. “I knew I had the option to abort the baby,” she said. During the same time, her life turned upside down. “I went through the hardest times of my life,” she explains. “I lost my place; I lost my car. I didn’t have a job and had money problems. That really took a toll on my mental health.”
76% of women seeking an abortion would prefer to parent
if their circumstances were different.
For moms like Eboni, Human Coalition addresses these circumstances head-on.
Fortunately, Eboni contacted Human Coalition. Instead of a judgmental response, she received Christlike kindness and love. “They were super supportive, and I started having weekly calls with a nurse,” Eboni explained. “She was so supportive and knowledgeable, answering all my questions. And then there was my therapist, who helped me with coping mechanisms for the mental health struggles I was facing.”
Everyone involved in Eboni’s case during her Human Coalition journey helped her in a significant way. “Nurse Christie was super positive and always kept me uplifted over the phone and just continued to encourage me that I could be a good mom.”
In the nurse visits and therapy sessions, Human Coalition gave Eboni the outline of what to expect when having the baby and what to expect after giving birth. “Honestly, if I didn’t have Human Coalition backing me, I do not know where I would be right now,” she admitted. “I don't know what my postpartum depression would look like. I couldn’t imagine, honestly, not having Human Coalition by my side.”
“They helped lift me out of my depression by giving me ways to cope with my feelings and being able to compare what’s actually important and how I react to things,” she said.
Through their ongoing support, Eboni said, “Human Coalition not only helped by giving me information, but they also gave me tangible items that I need. They gave me first aid kits that had different syringes to give my baby medicine, spoons, the portable changing kit, along with a diaper bag, not to mention the free car seat.”
But it was the bonding Eboni had with her baby that made all the difference.
One of the most powerful experiences during her pregnancy was feeling the kicks. “She wasn’t super active, but when she did kick, it was very profound, an amazing feeling,” Eboni described.
“And my highest point after having her I would say was just actually seeing her dad, raise her up, and I just looked at her. The fact that she was here and alive and I got to meet her was definitely one of the highest points of my life.”
Because of caring and compassionate people like you, who are willing to sacrifice for despairing moms and the babies they hold in their wombs, both lives were rescued from abortion.
“Now that I have Ariana, I couldn’t imagine not having her. I feel like it’s destiny. I feel like she just completes me. My old life is nonexistent, and I couldn’t imagine a life without her.”
Human Coalition made Eboni feel she was “capable of being a good mother.” She says Human Coalition gave her the confidence to bring her baby home from the hospital. “I am truly thankful and owe everything to Human Coalition.”
