Serenity went to the home of someone she thought was her friend to borrow some money for diapers. Instead, something terrible happened to her. When she woke up, Serenity discovered she’d been drugged and raped. She desperately hoped that she was not pregnant. But her hopes were dashed when she missed her period.
Frightened for her safety and that of her five other children, Serenity fled the state she was living in to go to Texas. Now she was homeless and without a job. Fortunately, Serenity had a kind friend who opened their living room floor to her and her children until she could get work and housing.
Serenity really didn’t believe in abortion, but with five children, no housing, and no job, she felt trapped. In addition, Serenity previously had several C-sections and had been told that if she gave birth to another child, there was a good chance she would have serious complications.
Serenity really didn’t believe in abortion, but with five children, no housing, and no job, she felt trapped.
Serenity frantically searched online for abortion. Thankfully, that’s when she found Human Coalition and decided to call. A voice filled with compassion and hope answered the phone. Serenity cried during the whole phone conversation as she poured out her worries and concerns to this kind stranger over the phone. Finally, she felt heard and understood.
During the call, Serenity learned that abortion was not her only option. Even though her circumstances were not ideal, it did not make it right to take the life of her child through abortion. She agreed to come in for a free pregnancy test and ultrasound, both of which confirmed she was pregnant.
The pressure was almost unbearable. Serenity’s priorities were to find housing and a job and bring stability to her family. Welcoming another child felt like the last thing she could handle. Over weeks of counseling with Human Coalition, Serenity went from wanting to abort her child to wanting to keep the baby. But she was concerned that she would not be able to bond with an infant conceived in sexual assault.
Things changed for Serenity as she formed a relationship with her Human Coalition nurse and was surrounded with Christlike compassion from the whole staff. Her hope increased as Human Coalition extended the support she desperately needed, including food, clothing, and baby supplies for her young children. Human Coalition also helped Serenity obtain mentoring to address the trauma of her assault. During this time, Serenity also started going to church again.
Then came a huge breakthrough: Through the resources Human Coalition connected her to, Serenity was given housing for a year at no cost, and a job came through as well that allowed her to work during the day and be home with her children at night. The stability Serenity craved for her family became a reality. Your kindness gave Serenity the confidence to welcome her newest baby despite huge obstacles.
Serenity gave birth to a beautiful baby via a C-section without any complications! She is bonding with her new baby and is thrilled to have another child to complete her beautiful family. Saying yes to her baby was the best decision Serenity could have made.
Thank you for standing with Serenity and her family throughout her difficult pregnancy, and for helping her find the resolve to save and cherish the life of her newborn child. It’s the generosity of pro-life rescuers like you that make it possible to reach the next mom seeking an abortion and rescue the next baby from the destruction of abortion.
