“Emma” discovered she was pregnant shortly after being told she had two weeks to vacate her apartment. Even though she’d recently started a new job she liked, she was still struggling to provide for herself and her child. With her already limited resources, she didn’t know how she could provide for a baby too.

Abortion Was the Next Logical Step

Emma thought abortion was her next logical step. She began making calls and actively seeking to abort. Thankfully, she called Human Coalition’s National Contact Center. The call agent explained the free services available to Emma and offered to schedule an appointment for her at one of our women’s care clinics. Emma was impressed by the amount of free help available, and she agreed to schedule an appointment.

After she arrived at the clinic, Emma explained her circumstances to her counselor and that she didn’t know how she could manage being a single mom to two children. Our staff compassionately listened to Emma and encouraged her that there was help available and she didn’t have to do this alone.

New Beginnings

Then Emma received a free ultrasound. As she saw her child on the monitor and began to understand what all is involved in an abortion procedure, she realized she wanted to keep her child. After Emma’s first visit, the Continuum of Care coordinator stayed in touch and even helped her find new housing for her growing family.

Only 17 days away from her due date, Emma texted the clinic to share what a difference they had made in her life. She wrote,

“I am doing well… my baby shower is on Saturday, and I’m excited. I went from stressing out and considering abortion to being excited about my baby boy. You guys are awesome. I can’t believe I almost terminated my pregnancy. You guys saved my son, and I am forever grateful. I will never be able to tell you how thankful I am for everything.”

It’s through your ongoing support that Emma felt supported and loved enough to choose life for her child. On behalf of Emma and her little boy, thank you for your commitment to provide life-affirming, compassionate care to at-risk women. We truly appreciate you!
