When “Jemma’s” doctor confirmed her pregnancy, her initial joy was quickly squashed by reality. She was unemployed, moving back and forth between relatives’ homes, and dealing with legal problems that made both housing and employment very difficult to find. Jemma was also very apprehensive about having another child. She feared she would lose this baby the way she had her previous child – to a preterm delivery followed by the infant’s death only days later.

Jemma thought about her life circumstances and her grief, and she panicked. Filled with anxiety, she began calling around for information about abortion. She ultimately decided to reach out to Human Coalition’s national Contact Center. A call agent scheduled an appointment for Jemma with our women’s care clinic for the very next day.

During her initial appointment, Jemma poured her heart out to her counselor, explaining how she wanted to have her child. However, because of her circumstances and the timing of the pregnancy, she felt she needed to abort. She couldn’t bear to lose another child the way she’d lost her last one.

During her appointment, Jemma received a free ultrasound, which revealed her baby was alive and growing. As she watched her baby waving its tiny arms and legs, and saw the heartbeat, Jemma tried to steel her heart against the desire to keep the baby she was so sure she couldn’t have.

However, our staff continued to follow up with Jemma, reassuring her. As they walked her through the help available to her, Jemma’s heart began to soften.

A week later, she revealed to the clinic staff that she’d continued to receive care from her doctor, and she was having a girl. She didn’t know how she’d make it all work, but she was determined to give her baby daughter a chance at LIFE! Months later, she contacted our staff again to let them know that “Jubilee” had arrived safely!

It’s through your ongoing support that Jemma felt supported and loved enough to choose life for her daughter. Thank you for giving so generously to our mission of serving families and rescuing children from abortion. On behalf of Jemma and Jubilee, thank you for your commitment to provide life-affirming, Christ-centered care to at-risk women. We truly appreciate you!
