When we first met “Kimberly” and “William,” they were living in a motel with their 10-year-old son. William had been walking an hour to and from his temporary job, trying desperately to overcome the felony charge that seemed to dog him wherever he went.
During this dark season, Kimberly learned she was pregnant. Full of fear, she panicked and decided she should have an abortion. She remembered seeing our Women’s Mobile Clinic, so she searched online to find our services. That’s when she discovered the Human Coalition Women’s Care Clinic in Raleigh.
Although Kimberly was determined to abort, her husband was excited about the pregnancy. “I knew God wasn’t gonna give us more than we could handle, and I told her not to worry. I would take care of the bills, and God would provide.”
Our staff recalls the day when this small family first visited our clinic. An ultrasound revealed twins, and Kimberly and William’s reactions couldn’t have been more opposite. William reassured his wife that regardless of their circumstances, “they were gonna make it.” Kimberly was already distraught over the thought of aborting one baby, so she didn’t know how she could abort two.
A few weeks later, Kimberly called the clinic in tears. Her doctor had confirmed that one of the babies no longer had a heartbeat. During this time of grieving, our staff walked alongside Kimberly and William, even escorting Kimberly to her first doctor’s appointment after the miscarriage.
When the doctor confirmed the second baby was still strong and developing, our clinic joyfully linked arms with the couple to prepare them for parenting. In partnership with a local church, we even threw two baby showers for them. So by the time their baby arrived, they had most of the items they needed.
But our staff’s care for Kimberly and William did not end there.
When a few of our donors learned that William was walking four miles to and from his job each day, they got together and purchased a new car for him, and they also paid for a full year of auto insurance!
Just before Christmas, William and Kimberly and their son participated in our clinic’s Holiday Connections program, where local church community groups lavished them and several other families with gifts, food, and toys for their children. “I didn’t think we’d have a Christmas this year, with the baby coming and all,” William told us. “But I prayed; and the next thing I know, we had all these things given to us. I was like, ‘He’s really making it happen for us.’”
Not long after that prayer, God showed up again and provided the family with an affordable house, and a local church to help them furnish it.
This story is a testimony to the bravery of Kimberly and William, the quality of care provided by Human Coalition – Raleigh, and the generosity of donors like you.
Just last week, their baby girl turned 1 year old. Because you’ve been a huge part of this little girl’s story, we want to thank you for all you’ve done to give her a future.
Thank you!
