The death of a brother or sister to abortion can dig deep into the soul and leave a huge gap of a loving sibling that was never known. Once discovered, the pain of abortion can last a lifetime and pierce the heart in ways nothing else can achieve. It’s the passing of a sibling, not just a clump of cells, the loss of a dear brother or sweet sister with whom life was never shared. It’s also the realization of the choice a mother or parents made and the impact that has on those relationships.
Here, brothers and sisters share their feelings and experiences in a collection of posts as told on Human Coalition’s AbortionMemorial.com – a sacred space for transparency, rebuilding, and promise in Christ our Lord. This is a unique place where someone can speak openly about the pain of abortion without fear of judgement.
To my brother or sister
I found out years later that our mom had a previous birth (me) and a prior abortion. My heart was so heavy, it fell to the bottom of my stomach, and I cried and cried. I sobbed as I was so surprised and happy to know I had another sibling but at that same exact moment, I had to mourn your death, your brutal, intentional death. I was heartbroken. How could our mother do that to you? You are just as worthy of life as I was.
I have dedicated my life to working with Let Them Live, an organization that helps women to be able to choose life, so that I can help save other brothers and sisters from having to live lives here on earth not knowing their siblings. I light candles for you. I pray for you. I remember and love you.

The pain of finding out you have a sibling, and then having to mourn their death is horrible. I am so close with my brother who is born, and I mourn each day wondering if I would be as close with my big brother or sister who was aborted. I can’t look at our mom the same way anymore.
Abortion of a sibling can be very personal, telling of experiences that should have been, but will never be.
Hello
I’m sorry that we never got to grow up together, that we could never go to school together, play together, and not be here to see me graduate soon. I love you.
I’m sorry
I am sorry that I never got to meet you. I am sorry that I never got to call you big brother. I am sorry that you never got to pick on me. I am sorry mom felt she wasn’t ready. Mom is so hurt she did this. Mom cries for you every day. She did not know what she was doing. She regrets it every day bubby. We all wish you were here. I cannot wait to meet you in heaven. I know you’re with grandpa. I am happy grandpa was there to meet you.
Grieving the Loss of My Little Sister
My little sister was killed by abortion shortly after Roe v Wade was tragically decided by the Supreme Court. As an accidental teenage pregnancy, I made it out alive because I was protected by the law. My entire life has been altered because I grew up as an only child. I miss my sister and all of the memories we would have made together. She was just as real as I am, and I will forever love her.
Abortion strikes once, but at times the evil transcends with the loss of even more siblings, causing further death and agony.
My Family
There were at least two I know of. I imagine one boy and one girl. One before I was born was killed and then my younger brother was born. Then the last one was killed. I think of these babies all the time. I feel deep grief and shame that I couldn’t have stopped this. Even though I was just a little kid.
On behalf of my aborted siblings
I found out that when my father was single he chose to abort two children (I do not know who the women were.) These are my older siblings. Now that I am married, my husband and I have decided to adopt these babies, request a baptism of desire from God for them and name them. Every life is priceless, and I love my siblings. I ask of their prayers and will celebrate their lives on the feast of the Holy Innocents. May God be praised.
Love you, bro!
To my baby brother about whom I’ve just learned after 45 years. Mom felt so much guilt and shame about her decision she couldn’t tell me about you all these years. I also feel bad because she says she did it because she felt she couldn’t handle another one. I’m sure it would have been more fun growing up with you. I expect to meet you at the resurrection. Love you, bro!
To my older brother or sister
I never was able to know you…I always wanted another older sibling, only to find out I was supposed to have one, but they were killed. The one thing my father regrets most of all in life. You were a real person, and you will always be remembered by me, my beautiful older sibling.
Some posts even have a trace of poetry to express the intense, ongoing demise of a brother or sister.
You are not forgotten
Although we never had a chance to meet I do love you. And I long for the day that I get to see you. You should be five years older than me. Our mother loved you so much and NEVER forgave herself for letting you go. She suffered to her death for this deed. Even though she preached forgiveness to others…little did she understand that our God forgives all.
Until we meet as a family I will hold within my heart such an emptiness and I promise I will take that extra breath for you. I will stand in the rain for you. I will stay up late into the night to see the sun go down and watch the moon rise for you, and as I gaze deeply into the stars, I will not lose site of the heavens at night. Whether you be brother or sister I know you are resting with our Lord.
To the sister I never knew
When I learned about you, it was heartbreaking. I thought, “I could have had a sister”. I could have had a sister to play with, share clothes with, do each other’s hair and makeup. I could have had a sister. What fun to have the family tickle fight.
I did have a sister and she was taken away. Killed. Not given a chance to live. I miss the “could have beens,” because we could have done so much together with our parents and our brother.
My Brother
But you died, and that was real. And mom told me, but then it was a secret, not to be spoken of. You died, but there was no coffin, no grave, no funeral. No recognition of a death; we just pretended you’d never existed. But I knew, and I mourned. I mourned for you in secret, in darkness, but in the light I pretended.
I love you.
Sand castles in the clouds
I dream of you often…running, playing and building sand castles with you, all the things I would have done had your life not been taken from us.
Know you have a sister thinking of you every single day, waiting to be called up to be with you. And I promise when that time comes, I will run and play and build sand castles with you, for the rest of eternity. Until then…much love.
Your little sister
The stabbing pain and emptiness resonates among many letters, telling of the unique damage caused by abortion.
To my darling little brother
I love you so much, sweet brother of mine. Finding out about the way you passed was one of the worst moments of my life. I’m so sorry for what was done to you. You deserved so much more. I wish you had lived. I wished you had been in my life. You’d be 18 now, and I just know that we would have been very close.
To my sibling, that never met. I love u dearly!
I never got to meet you. You were conceived before me. In 1974, I believe. Our mom was 18. She was confused and listened to family who convinced our mom to abort you. They even paid for the procedure. I saw and heard the pain in our mom’s face, explaining why she went through with it.
From the bottom of my soul I am sorry she made this choice and didn’t choose life for you! Someday I will meet you in Heaven with JESUS and I will hold you and kiss you and tell you how much I loved and missed you. From your little sister!
To my little brother, I love you.
Mom made a mistake with a coworker and didn’t know if you belonged to Dad or Him. I was only a baby. Mom and Dad decided to save their marriage and take your life. After your life was taken, Mom found out you DID belong to Dad, because of how far along you were. The irony is their marriage wasn’t saved. I’ve watched Mom cry for you many times. But you didn’t die in vain, Mom has talked other women out of ending their baby’s life. We love you and always will.
Despite the circumstances of some aborted siblings, life prevailed in others.
Missing brothers or sisters, but I survived and was successful!
My mom was naive and pressured to have abortions, and eventually made a stand and refused. I was born. I grew up poor, on welfare without a father as my mom danced, but I was encouraged to love reading. I worked hard in school, earning scholarships, a degree, and my commission as an officer. A disabled vet, I served my country, and continue to do so in the DoD.
I was lonely at times, knowing I had brothers or sisters who were murdered- it was described to me. It is a brutal and evil thing. I was treated poorly by family who didn’t want me for the longest time, as my mom spent time in institutions from the abuses she suffered, but I rose above that and many other difficult challenges to build and live a successful life and am happily married and we have a wonderful daughter, and I worked my way up to a 6-figure salary by my late 20s. It was rough, but I thank God I was spared, and was able to live so that I might find happiness on earth and encourage others to spare their babies and give them a chance to build a better life, as I did. I wonder what my brothers or sisters would have accomplished…
My Beloved Aborted Sibling
I am 21 years old and found out not long ago that my mother was raped when she was 18 years old. She was confused and scared, so she had an abortion. She had such horrific nightmares and such sorrow and pain from it, that later in her life, when she unexpectedly became pregnant with me, she kept me. She was unemployed and single, yet she knew she could never go through another abortion. She worked hard to raise me, but we are both so glad she chose life!
The hope that is felt, in spite of such great loss, many times comes through Jesus Christ and commitment to advocating life for the preborn.
My beloved sibling
There are so many days that I long to know you, my brother or sister.
One day I will meet you and spend eternity with you because of the salvation Jesus has provided. I am so sad we didn’t have our lives together here on earth. I love you.
To My Missed Sibling
I don’t know you, but I love you! Mom does too. She still, after 38 years, mourns what she did and misses you terribly. We can’t wait to meet you someday soon!
Love, Your Big Sis
I Wish I Could Have Had You in My Life
I wish I could visit your grave, but I cannot. I know we would have been so close. I love you sis and I am so sorry that my mom decided to abort you. She regrets it and now stands for life. I am dedicating my life to fight for the unborn so that one day nobody will have to experience the pain of having a lost sibling that you don’t even get to speak about.
Love letter to my aborted sibling
I feel a loss with you not being part of my life, it breaks my heart. Jesus makes it better in knowing him I will one day be with you.
I truly wish your life was not cut off. We could have played together, laughed, shared stories, and be a part of each other’s lives. Just always know your sister grieves for you and I love you. I am crying as I write this to you. I cannot wait to hug you and hold you.
Love always and forever
Your sister
