Another Child Was out of the Question
When “Rebecca,” the mother of a two-year-old, came to our women’s care clinic, she was living in a small trailer with her mom, stepdad, and an extended family member. To say things looked bleak for Rebecca is an understatement. Unemployed and lacking transportation, Rebecca relied on others for everything. She didn’t think this was a healthy environment in which to raise another child.
Our staff met with Rebecca and gave her a free ultrasound. Rebecca saw her child for the first time on the ultrasound monitor and decided then and there to choose life. We then connected her with our Continuum of Care Coordinator, Rachel, who helped Rebecca develop a life plan. Within a few weeks, we’d helped Rebecca secure affordable housing for her and her daughter, getting them out of that crowded trailer. Next, we invited Rebecca and her daughter to our Christmas Celebration event, where a home group from a local church blessed Rebecca with a complete Christmas – including a meal and gifts for her, her little girl, and the baby on the way.
When asked about the Christmas Celebration, Rebecca recalls being “blessed with a lot of things, including beds for my daughter and me.” She also experienced an immediate connection with one of the women from the home group, and she has remained in touch with her.
So much has changed since Rebecca first walked through the doors of our clinic. Not only has she given birth to a beautiful baby girl named “Kayla,” but she also reconciled with the father of her older daughter. The two have since gotten married and, according to Rebecca, he “treats Kayla like his own.”
Rebecca visited our women’s care clinic to show off Baby Kayla and share the good news that she and her husband had “started going to church in July and got baptized.”
Rebecca’s story is a beautiful testimony to the power of life-affirming care to women facing an unexpected pregnancy. Your ongoing support allowed us to be there for her and put her on the trajectory to rebuild a life with Christ at its center.
Thank you for being a hero to Rebecca and beautiful Baby Kayla.
